Sweden National Day

June 6 is the anniversary of Gustav Vasa's election as King of Sweden in 1523. This day marks the end of the United Kingdom of Sweden and Denmark. June 6 was also the day when Sweden implemented the new constitution in 1809.

Both the King and Queen of Sweden will participate in the national celebration at the Scansen Open Air Museum in Stockholm. The yellow and blue Swedish flags are raised on the flagpoles. Children in traditional peasant costumes present summer bouquets to the king and his wife.

The annual National Day Jockey Club will be held on Stockholm Zoo Island. Beautiful ladies will wear their most unique hats to watch the race.

On the Swedish National Day, most Swedes are keen to celebrate the National Day with a picnic, and the Swedish flag-themed cake is one of the most popular desserts.
