Origin and custom of Songkran Festival

It is said that the Songkran Festival originated from a ritual of Indian Brahmanism. Every year, believers have a religious day to bathe by the river to wash away their sins. For those who cannot go to the riverside due to old age, physical disabilities, sickness and weakness, their family members or friends have to pick up water for them and pour water to wash them off. Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand is famous for its grand and lively festival, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists every year.

The first ceremony in the early morning of the traditional Songkran Festival is to pray for blessings. The younger generation lined up to pay tribute to the elders, hoping to receive the blessings of the elders, and hope to be auspicious in the coming year. During these three days, the whole country was full of excitement, with large-scale celebrations and "Miss Songkran Festival" pageants being held everywhere. Locals and tourists huddled together in the streets and alleys of Bangkok, happily splashing water, congratulating each other and wishing each other, especially in hot weather, getting wet can help cool off the heat.
